Eric Fuller, President & Chief Executive Officer


Eric has served as Chief Executive Officer since March 2017 and as President since March 2018. 

In 2018, he led the company through its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange and, beginning in 2019, built two new operating models from the ground up: a first-of-its-kind digital fleet, Variant, on the asset side, and Xpress Technologies, our reimagined brokerage division, on the third-party capacity side.

Passionate about technology, he continues to build an innovative culture that streamlines the value chain for U.S. Xpress customers, improves the overall driver experience, and transforms U.S. Xpress into a true digital transportation solutions provider. These efforts include significant investments in the future of the trucking industry, such as autonomous trucking and fuel cell technology.

Eric also guides the company in corporate responsibility and places a focus on devoting time and resources to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

A staunch advocate for the trucking industry, Eric lobbies for a range of regulations that promote safety and environmental responsibility and serves on the board of directors for both the American Trucking Associations and the Trucking Alliance, a trucking safety advocacy group.

Max Fuller, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman


Max is widely respected within the trucking industry as a true innovator, evidenced by his award for innovation from the Smithsonian Institute in 2000. Under his leadership, U.S. Xpress became the second largest privately-owned truckload carrier in the nation, surpassing $1 billion in annual revenue in 2004. As Executive Chairman, he remains a full-time executive officer, focusing on long-term strategy, industry innovation, talent development, and equipment.

In addition to guiding U.S. Xpress to the forefront of the industry, he serves the community on several Boards of Directors and regularly accepts requests to share his insights at speaking engagements, including lending his expertise to presentations to the National Transportation Safety Board and the Department of Transportation.

Eric Peterson, Chief Financial Officer


Eric has served as Chief Financial Officer since October 2015.

He has held several roles in the company, including Treasurer, Secretary, Director of Accounting, Vice President of Accounting, and most recently, Senior Vice President of Accounting and Finance. Before joining our team, Eric worked as a Certified Public Accountant at Ernst & Young, LLP.

Eric is a graduate of the Samford University and received his Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Joel Gard, President of Xpress Technologies


Joel has served as President of Xpress Technologies since June 2020.

He is charged with building and strengthening the Xpress Technologies team by elevating a solid leadership foundation with new and diverse talent from within and outside the transportation industry. 

Prior to joining the company in 2019, Joel served as Senior Vice President and Head of Europe at Coyote Logistics, leading its entry and rapid scale-up in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During his time at Coyote, he held various senior leadership positions of increasing responsibility, including Vice President of Europe Operations, Director of Europe Operations, and Senior Manager of Strategic Projects, where he gained extensive experience in digital transformation, change management, sales, marketing, operations, international expansion, mergers and acquisitions, and freight technology.

Joel holds a B.A. in Economics (Honors) and Environmental Studies from Lake Forest College and is a 2021 candidate for his Master of Business Administration from INSEAD (France/Singapore).

Cameron Ramsdell, President of Variant


Cameron has served as President of Variant since April 2019. 

He is charged with continuing to grow and evolve the company’s digitally orchestrated fleet and leading strategy around its algorithmic-based optimizer technology.

Prior to joining the company, Cameron was Chief Technology Officer at Coyote Logistics. He also held additional positions at Coyote including, Vice President of Operations and Senior Vice President of Strategic Projects, where he gained extensive experience in sales, operations, brokerage, mergers and acquisitions, international expansion, and the application of technology in logistics.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from Denison University and received his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Amanda Thompson, Chief People Officer


Amanda has served as Chief People Officer since August 2019.

In her current role, Amanda oversees the company’s Human Resources team and is responsible for all recruiting, onboarding, benefits and learning functions. She also leads the company’s initiatives around diversity and inclusion, assuring an equitable workplace.

She joined U.S. Xpress in 2004, working in several roles such as Benefits Manager, Benefits and Compensation Director, Senior Human Resources Director, Vice President of Human Resources, and Senior Vice President of Human Resources. She has worked in the Human Resources field in a variety of positions since 1993.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Human Resources Management from Bryan College.

Danna Bailey, Chief Brand Officer


In this role, Danna defines, elevates, and promotes the company’s brand vision and supports the introduction of new business units, such as Variant and Xpress Technologies. She is an expert in convening people from multiple disciplines to create optimal results on significant company initiatives, including new driver recognition programs, an intranet designed just for U.S. Xpress drivers, and a first-of-its-kind college scholarship program for drivers and their families.

She joined the company as Vice President of Corporate Communications in 2016. Before joining our team, Danna’s communications and marketing background included serving as Vice President of Corporate Communications at Chattanooga’s EPB (formerly known as Electric Power Board) from 2005-2016 and as Account Supervisor with the Johnson Group advertising agency from 2000-2005.

Nathan Harwell, Chief Legal Officer


Nathan has served as Chief Legal Officer since January 2020.

He is responsible for managing and overseeing the Legal, Risk, and Safety departments, as well as providing strategic leadership and coordination of legal matters.

Before joining U.S. Xpress, Nathan was a member of the Board of Directors and acted as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Rinnai America Corporation, a global manufacturer of commercial and residential gas appliances, and the market leader in tankless water heaters. Prior to his time at Rinnai, he was Senior Counsel at Medtronic, Inc., where he provided general legal counsel to the Company's Spine and Biologics Division, with primary responsibilities of supporting product development and business development efforts.

He is a graduate of Carson-Newman College and received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

Bryan Johnson, ED.D, Chief of Staff


Bryan has served as Chief of Staff since August 2021.

Bryan is responsible for working closely with the senior leadership team, focusing on leading cross-departmental projects, working with HR teams on educational training and development, and nurturing community partnerships to support area economic, talent, and workforce development.

Before joining U.S. Xpress, Bryan held the role of Hamilton County Schools (Tenn.) Superintendent. During his four-year tenure, he was named the top superintendent for the State of Tennessee, and in 2021, one of four finalists for the top superintendent for the entire nation. Bryan led initiatives that improved student performance, made significant strides in technology access, and recruited and developed talent across the system. He was responsible for managing an annual budget of more than $500 million and over 6,000 total employees for a system of more than 44,000 students.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Austin Peay State University, a master’s degree in special education and teaching from Belmont University, and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and professional practice from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Justin Harness, President of Dedicated


Justin has served as President of Dedicated since January 2021.

He is responsible for leading sales and operations for our Dedicated fleet of trucks and drivers serving a variety of customers throughout the country.

Justin started his career in the transportation industry in a management trainee position with U.S. Xpress in 2002. Since then, he has served in various roles, including Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, Senior Vice President of Dedicated Operations, Vice President of Customer Service, and Vice President and General Manager of Southwest Operations.

Jake Lawson, Chief Commercial Officer


Jake has served as Chief Commercial Officer since January 2021.

He is responsible for leading sales, pricing and customer engagement and working with the leadership team in the execution of strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining U.S. Xpress, he spent 14 years at Whirlpool Corporation. Along with roles in Product Marketing, Merchandising, and Sales, he worked as Vice President and General Manager of Sales, Vice President and General Manager of Refrigeration, and Vice President and General Manager of eCommerce. He brings extensive experience in sales and operations, pricing and merchandising, customer experience, organization transformation, and general management to our team.

Jake earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit and his Master’s in Business Administration from Michigan State University.
